Originally developed as a physical therapy aid, the patented secret lies within the XCO-TRAINER®. Unlike stationary dumbbells, specially patented granules inside the XCO-TRAINER® serve as a dynamic mass which increases in direct proportion to the momentum of your own swing. When activated by rhythmic swinging motions, the oscillating mass of the XCO TRAINER® dynamically harnesses the power of the user's own momentum and unleashes a powerful counterbalance to the exercise it is being applied to, thereby greatly increasing the effectiveness of the activity.

In a topical study, the Institute of Medical Physics at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg examined the extent to which the addition of the XCO-TRAINER® boosts the effectiveness of conventional exercise programs.
So what is the XCO® Effect?
The XCO-Trainers® (XCO's) require a smooth execution of precise movements to create the impulse necessary to reverse the direction of the dynamic mass inside them. As this oscillating mass builds up momentum, the displacement of the granules from one end of the XCO-Trainer® to the other can be felt and heard, and indicate to the user that it is has been properly activated.

Because of its dynamic properties, the XCO-Trainer® presents a "motion challenge" and intuitively encourages the user to set it into motion. Because of this, a bare minimum of physical activity is accomplished simply by activating its oscillating mass. At all times, the trainee receives kinesthetic and auditory feedback to ensure that proper movements are being used. In this manner, a consistently high level of intensity can be maintained for the duration of the workout, even on long distance walks. Additionally, the momentum of the oscillating mass will gradually increase over time. So although the external force applied by the user remains constant, the swing of the XCO-Trainer® will gradually accelerate in direct proportion to the length of the work-out, thereby facilitating the dynamics of the technique.
Because they are inert masses, dumbbells of the same weight do not promote a natural impulse to set them into motion. Additionally, because they do not give any biofeedback to facilitate proper use, a compatible high intensity workout with dumbbells cannot be attained or maintained with any consistency. Further, weights with inert masses do not promote smooth movements and can cause muscle strain, discomfort and an overburdening of the musculoskeletal system. These disharmonious jerky motions are characterized by brief spikes of strength. In a recent study conducted by the Institute of Medical Physics (Erlangen University), it was proven that the XCO®-Effect, by building arm and upper-body strength, improved the cardiovascular effectiveness of training and increased the burning of calories by 28%.
